Operating Principle and Technology

The structure of the filter core is based on a silicon carbide honeycomb and operates according to the so-called „Wall flow Principle“ (Image1). The exhausts flow through the inlet ducts which are closed on the outlet parts. The deposition of the soot particles takes part on the thus forced flow on behalf of the porous channel walls.

As far as the silicon carbide filter (SiC) is concerned, the individual honeycombs are being connected by joints made of special cement (Image 2).  Thus the inherent stresses due to combustion of the soot and the thermal expansion of the filter module can be fully compensated.

As far as the Physitec SiC-B Diesel Particle filter (without catalytic coating) the combustion of the soot is being guaranteed by beans of mere active combustion chamber supported regeneration (Image 3). The engine can be operated by standard diesel fuel without any restrictions with respect to its sulfur content.  

Regeneration of the accumulated particles takes place by means of combustion on behalf of a PHYSITRON-Diesel combustion chamber. To combust the soot the diesel fuel from the main tank of the vehicle can be used. Regeneration takes place every approximately 16 operating hours (depending on the engine-out emissions) upon stand-still of the engine. The regeneration duration depends on the size of the filter and takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

  • Appropriate for retrofitting of NRMM machines (Non-road mobile machinery).
