When it comes to terms with promoting an environmental consciousness and to use resources in a sustainably way, we are ready to explore new pathways on this behalf.

Challenge

For approximately 20% of the excavated asphalt nowadays there is no other use. This leads to hug amounts of asphalt every year, constantly increasing.
Asphalt with a PAH content between 5 000 and 20 000 mg/kg binder may only be recycled when the new asphalt does not exceed the limit of 5 000 mg/kg binder thereof.
Asphalt with a PAH contain of more than 20 000 mg/kg binder is being excluded from recycling and therefore finds its way to the landfill and waste deposit centers.

 

PHYSITRON has developed a new procedure thanks to which rocks, ground, sand or other materials connected with bitumen can finally be separated. The process takes place in an environmentally friendly way without high thermal stress on this behalf.


Operating Principle

The excavated and subsequently crushed or shredded asphalt consisting of fine ground or rocks plus bitumen as binder is being separated into its components in a closed system (Image 2). On this behalf a solvent is being used which demerges the bitumen thereof. The mix of solvent and bitumen is then being conveyed into a container where it is being separated due to thermal heating (max. 60°C) – the bitumen bed remains left over in the container on this behalf. The solvent, however, is being re-introduced into the closed circuit for further use. The rocks and ground are being washed out, separated and may thus be used as good as new material for the production of concrete, asphalt etc.

The device may be operated in a mobile or stationary environment. PHYSITRON Asphalt Recycling is already registered for patent aproval.
